Epcot building in Disney World Resort

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Epcot is a theme park located in Walt Disney, Florida. It is dedicated to international culture and technological innovation; therefore, it is divided into two sections that represent them: Future World and World Showcase. It was inaugurated in October 1982 under the name of Epcot Center, which was changed to Epcot in 1996. It was Disney's largest park until the opening of Walt Disney World in Orlando.

In 2010, Epcot received approximately 10.83 million visitors, ranking third in the ranking of the most visited parks in the United States, and fifth in the world ranking. It is shaped like a sphere including a lot of little triangles inside of it and is one of the most admired monuments in the United States.

Walt Disney initially thought that Epcot could be an experimental community in which people could live and create urban life. The idea was to create an urban city center with some residential areas, industrial areas, schools and its own transport system to travel inside Epcot

After Disney's death in 1966, the Epcot concept was abandoned as the company had uncertainty about the feasibility of maintaining an operating city.

STRUCTURE

Walt Disney sketched the original design concept for Epcot Center, including Spaceship Earth.  Disney wanted a unique structure that would be instantly recognizable around the world.  The central figure of Disney’s Millennium 2000 celebration, Spaceship Earth has become the symbol that Walt Disney envisioned.

While geodesic domes had previously been constructed, Spaceship Earth was the first large-scale complete geodesic sphere ever built. SGH was the structural engineering and prime consultant for the project.
